We love eating great food! We also love getting out as a family to do something active. Our favourite activity this summer has been to try new hikes. Most of the hikes we have tried this year are in Kananaskis. My three tips for successful hiking with kids are:
- Take lots of breaks, kids need reminders to drink water so they don’t get dehydrated.
- Pack lots of nutrient dense snacks like homemade granola bars, power balls and an easy lightweight lunch: nut butter and apple sandwiches, grapes and some good quality chocolate. Is it just me or does everything taste better when hiking?
- Hike with friends, this always helps the kids feel a sense of adventure and keeps the whining to a minimum.
